Finally, Timbuk2 is making off-the-rack bags in girl colors! It’s about time. This Medium Cargo Tote is a rich dark chocolate brown with a very pretty rose pink center panel, logo, and top flaps.
I bought this bag for commuting on the bus, and I’ve been very pleased with it. I have a Timbuk2 messenger bag, but the Cargo Tote is a better option for commuting because it’s easier to get stuff in and out of, and more comfortable to carry through crowds and narrow spaces. It fits all the usual stuff from my purse, plus a book or magazine, PSP, travel umbrella, tall coffee mug or water bottle, knit hat and scarf, a pair of flats, and lunch. I’ve carried a laptop in it once, and it fit surprisingly easily. There are numerous inside pockets to help keep everything organized, and if you flip up the top zipper flaps, they extend the height of the bag by several inches. Note: If I carry heels instead of flats, it’s a tight fit, but still comfortable to carry. However, if I need to bring heels often, or if I need to carry my laptop in a sleeve often, I may consider going up to the larger size.
As with all Timbuk2s, the Cargo Tote is incredibly sturdy and well-made, yet conforms to my body nicely when carrying cross-body. It would be an excellent airplane carry-on, because it zips securely and would fit under the seat, but is still small enough to pass as a purse. In comparison to the LV Palermo, this bag is almost exactly the same size, measurement for measurement, but is probably more practical. The Timbuk2 has no vachetta leather to worry about, the crossbody strap is wide and comfortable, it’s waterproof — and if it gets dirty, I can throw it in the washer. Instead of spending $1000+ (including tax) on the LV, the Timbuk2 Cargo Tote is a much more reasonable $74 (including overnight shipping) at Zappos.
