Hayden-Harnett Havana

by pixie on December 29, 2006

Yesterday I carried my black Hayden-Harnett Havana hobo for the first time. I”ve been on sort of a hand-carried bag kick for a while, but I”m really enjoying the shoulder bag thing again. I love this bag because it”s soft and roomy and lightweight, and the small details are lovely. And it has a fabulous jumbo tassel that my better-half referred to as “a flogger.”

Did I mention that this bag is BIG? I can throw all my usual stuff in there, and there”s still major room for more. Last night I went shopping and got a new game for my Nintendo DS, and just tossed it in the bag. This morning, I added the DS herself and brought it all with me. Still plenty of room. I could easily have thrown in a sandwich or a paperback, and probably a bottle of water too. My only complaint is that the lining is black, so it”s kind of hard to find stuff in there. Last night it occurred to me that it’s like a great, gaping black hole of a handbag. Extremely useful, but I’ll have to be careful or it will end up weighing 50 lbs.

In a way, Hayden-Harnett is a great solution for me. I’ve had this obsession with high-end bags lately, but I can”t really afford to maintain it as a way of life. Hayden-Harnett makes great quality stuff for a fraction of the price of Louis Vuitton, Chloe, Fendi, or Balenciaga, and the designs are current. HH Pricing is comparable with Coach, but Coach hasn’t made anything I really love in a couple of years – in fact, I find a lot of their recent stuff cheesy and/or boring. And Coach prices have gone up, but the quality is slipping now that they”ve moved production out of the US. But that’s a whole other rant…

Note- This is a rebuilt post from last year that got lost when my ISP crashed. It originally had a very nice comment from Ben at HH that read:

Thanks for the kudos! It means a lot to us to know people love our bags. We wish you a happy new year and plenty of fun with the “flogger.”
